1st Year Design Show

This afternoon I attended the 1st year design show for Interior Decorators! This was an opportunity to get to see other's work from throughout the year and see the different talents of fellow classmates. It was very nice we ate some cake and fruit & Got to chat with all my fellow classmates and teachers.

Residential Finishes Condo Design:

From Vancouver

I am almost finished first year. Technically, I've been telling myself already that I am finished but i still have 2 exams this week: humanities and communications. and instead of studying, i've been sleeping. It's not working out that well for me actually :) But last week was crazy busy, busier then I've been all semester and it probably made me kinda grumpy.. But I had 2 huge presentations, both a condo and cottage design project and 3 exams...not quite my ideal week...

But not they are done and I just have those last 2 to tackle. ugh

For the condo design project I was assigned the client of a young mid- thirties couple new to Toronto from Vancouver. They had just moved to the Distillery District and are busy accepting new jobs. The wife loves to cook and entertain but hates the color dark brown or black when used in interiors. They also have a child, a little boy, aged 3, with severe environmental allergies.

My analysis and final board:

Coming from Vancouver, I imagine them used to the serene, beautiful West Coast. When I think of British Columbia, I see shorelines, mountains, natural wood and rounded stones. As newcomers to this huge metropolitan city of Toronto, their new condo allows them to relax and unwind in the calming blue, greens, and browns they would see back home. A hint of orange, blue’s complimentary adds some visual hue interest.

The wife made known her dislike for dark brown and black in interiors. All browns were kept light and airy, with either slats, or mesh to add visual interest.

In order to accommodate for their child and his sensitivities all fabrics, in both the furniture and drapery are polyester. Furniture choices were also taken into consideration when remembering the child. There are many soft, rounded edges and plenty of storage space throughout the living area of the condo for all his toys.
