Leigh Ann Allaire Perrault

Once again, a completely inspirational presentation today at school. We got to listen to Leigh Ann Allaire Perrault!

Leigh Ann is a decorator with her diploma from Sheridan  and she works for Benjamin Moore Paints in their design section. She also appears on City Line every Monday and is known for her frugalistic ways!
Just what I like.

Leigh Ann stressed the importance today to us about dreaming big, and then even bigger. So with my dream condo in Toronto - I should just bump it up to New York :)

Also the importance of networking, making connections, being involved, having and using twitter - I still need to master that! I did however tweet about her! and she tweeted me back :))

Check her out!

IDS 2012

Today was trade day at the IDS 2012. IDS is the Interior Design Show that happens every year. Trade day is when everyone in the design field can visit and mingle, talk the design talk, and it isn't opened to the public till saturday. This was a mandatory trip and even an assignment to go along with it.  There is a lot to look at, a lot to take in. I collected quite a few different samples, business cards, pamphlets, brochures and magazines throughout the day. The IDS was at Toronto Metro Convention Centre - so right down town by the Roger's centre and the CN tower. I love it done there - I dream of owning a condo above Younge and Dundas one day.... ;)

Anyways, check out all the cool things at the show!

Becky Freeman

For every design course at Humber there is a class called Town Hall. It's where all the students in that program, despite what year/semester they are in come together for a class. This semester we have a different speaker for each week.

Today we had Becky Freeman.

She even graduated from Humber! Becky graduated 6 years ago from Humber with her diploma in Interior Decorating. She was hired 3 weeks after graduation by Brian Gluckstien's Design Corp.  (HUGE) She worked there for a year and then after that year started her own business:

Becky Freeman Interior Design

Total inspiration. For one she's from Humber :) and when she was here she didn't like to sketch - just like me! So there's hope for me! :) She started her own business, which I hope I can do one day as well.

Anyways, really good, inspiring presentation from her, defiantly made me excited for life after college!

And my teacher for this course (and also my Residential Finishes) is Jo Alcorn.  Not only is she my professor - She also.....

- own's and design's her own furniture line, all eco friendly
- teaches at Humber College
- intense blogger
- has a lightning line coming out this spring
- been on tv ( HGTV's "Design to Win", "Designer Superstar Challenge" and "Canada's Worst Handyman 3)
- annnnndddddd is now FOLLOWING ME ON TWITTER!

How cool is that! Someone like - famous- following me! :) I can't wait to see what things she has planned for us this year.

Now I better go tweet something impressive ;)

Am I an Artist?

Today I was called an Artist. Twice.

I have NEVER thought about my self in that way. I mean, sure, I'm in
Interior decorating. And that requires me to own sketch books, fancy
pencil crayons, rolls of trace paper, I even have a moleskine!

Really an Artist? I don't think I'm talented enough. I mean today we had to sketch chairs and wall paper in Studio class. A Bentwood chair..those are tough...for me at least. I'm pretty sure my Prof  is currently discussing with the Head of the program how they can easily let me go. I flew through my drawings and then drew a caricature of Megan. We then had to hand them in. Not the best idea on my part. The caricature was done well at least. And she said to be loose and use a broad tip marker...so this could work out for me...

I don't think sketching is my strong point. I'd rather draft something out:

That is the third part of my final project. We choose a canadian celebrity and then from there developed their style, color scheme, finishes, choose fabrics, made a clip file and specification folder..

It was like my first real design project!

This is the second board:

I don't have a picture of the first board. shucks

Anyways i had Shania Twain. I incorporated her aboriginal heritage, some white birch, oranges, salmons, greens, browns and lots earthy things. :)

Final week was defiantly one of the most stressful times i have ever had. Even had to be at school looking pretty and presentable and ready to show our design for 9am. Skills.

And this was only first semester final project....It's just going to keep on getting better!
Can't wait!

Pictures!

I have a new picture! Compliments of Jasmine Togeretz for her beautiful photography and editing skills! She also provided me with the lovely photos from New Years Eve. This is defiantly my favourite photo of myself...for now at least! Yay!! For touch ups and no pimples! :) Thanks Jas

And We're back!

Back in Brampton that is, and back to school tomorrow morning. 11 - 6 in class, nbd.

Break was good, got a lot in.  The first week I forgot to tell McDonald's that I was available to work so I got to spend the whole week at home with just my dad seeing as the kids were still in school. I gave my room a good clean, even the closet! Spent some time at Costco with my dad preparing for the Season of holidays and dinners and chocolate and well, just food simply! A trip to the states for some serious shopping was also a huge thing!

Second Week I got in my 40 hours at Mcd's...technically something like 37.5...but a 40hr week sounds better ;) We also got some snow that week - which I drove through to go to Hamilton to spend and evening of Chai tea lattes and games with some lovely ladies... New Year's Eve was celebrated as well...
The bestie and I got in some quality time together....

And the 3rd and final week was in 2012...didn't work quite as much...but that's okay. I don't actually like working haha. Some more shopping, came back up to Toronto for a day, Swiss chalet, games nights, movie nights, pina coladas {my new fav drink} shopping with my momma, Saturday morning breakfast with some dear friends, helped the bestie paint her guest room...did i mention I saw her 4 DAYS in a row! haha awesome - I'm gonna miss the 7 minute drive to her house...can't wait for the summer :))

And now i'm back at school...if this semester goes anything as fast as first semester did then It'll be summer before I know it! YES!

How to paint?

So my Bestie and I are painting the guest room at her house.

Her parent's are gone and she's wanted to do this forever and she suckered me into joining her - haha kidding, i willingly agreed to help her :)

So we went to Canadian tire, and within 5 minutes we had a paint color. We're pro and I put my interior decorating talents to good use! YAY! And I learned today how they make paint, and measure it and stuff and then put in in the big drum like thing and shake it all up. It was a learning experience to say the least.

So now we are back at her house and have gathered and set out all the paint supplies for the big adventure this weekend. Only thing...Her brother asked if we knew how to paint without making the lines appear...I don't even know what that means...Maybe we'll watch some youtube videos about it...

Here we are! Wish us luck :)

Happy New Year!

Happy 2012! Amazing how it is another year already! craziness!!

I had a wonderful time last night with a small group of friends. I had at first had different plans to go to a small party at my friends, but things changed throughout the day and I ended up staying home and joined in with the party happening there!

Every year since I was probably like 8 or 10 my family has done New Years Eve with another Family...and whenever I've made other plans, I've ended up staying home anyways! It's probably
meant to be :)

Anyways we had a fun night, lots a food, played apples to apples, the game of things (my personal fav!)
sparklers, more food, Pina coladas....

I'm thankful to God for a wonderful year and pray that all my friends, family and myself will be blessed with another great year together!
